CRAIG MORRISON STUDIO

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Sept 20, 2024

1990’s subculture enigma Craig Morrison makes a triumphant return with new studio, led by his two daughters.

Ripples are being made in the underground subculture as Craig Morrison, the iconic designer who defined an era with his innovative and rebellious rubber couture and bag designs, makes his highly anticipated return.

Known for his groundbreaking work in the late 80s and early 90s, Morrison became a cultural touchstone, celebrated for his signature spiked rubber creations that adorned style icons of the time and featured in Vogue, Elle and on MTV. His work, which bridged the worlds of fashion and art, is now housed in the permanent collections of The Victoria & Albert Museum and The Science Museum in London. Since ceasing production of his couture rubber bags in the early 2000s, Craig Morrison bags reach a resale value increase of 700% since their original sale in the late 80s, with fans scouring The RealReal, Thredup and eBay looking for rare pieces – most of which damaged by rave use from the generation before.

Craig Morrison was recently diagnosed with a form of brain cancer, and has found new inspiration in his latest chapter – visiting the collections of his early twenties. Under the gentle persuasion of his two daughters, Hattie Morrison and Leia Morrison, Craig has reimagined his iconic designs from three decades ago and developed the label– now a collaborative studio dedicated to reviving the spirit of punk and underground rave culture, pushing his original ideas with higher quality and an entirely local production process.

Hattie Morrison, an accomplished writer, and Leia Morrison, a celebrated photographer, are not simply bringing their father's designs back to life—they are retelling the story of his original vision. Their collaboration is more than just a business venture; it’s a deeply personal tribute to their father’s legacy.

Craig Morrison's influence on the underground music scene during his earlier years cannot be overstated. His designs were worn by some of the most influential and daring figures in the music industry, turning his creations into symbols of the counterculture movement. His work championed the LGBTQIA+ community, supported charities fighting the HIV crisis collaborated with the most influential dancers of the time.

Now, after an early access launch to subscribers only, the studio has opened their site after thirty years. Several of today’s leading musicians have approached Craig Morrison Studio, eager to collaborate on fresh, bold designs that carry the legacy forward for set and stage.

Fans and fashion enthusiasts alike can find a limited release of new pieces, alongside archival classics. These pieces not only honour the iconic style that made Craig Morrison a household name, but also introduce contemporary changes that resonate with today's subversive fashion and music scene.

Hattie Morrison and Leia Morrison, the pair of Creative Directors behind this revival, are deeply committed to preserving their father’s legacy while also contributing their own creative voices. Working closely with Craig, they have embraced both the old methods that once defined his work – making the pieces entirely in the UK, with talented artisans and tailors who were originally part of the team in the early 1990’s – and new ideas that will shape its future and inspire the next generation of wearers.

The new collection promises to be a powerful statement of resilience, creativity, and the enduring influence of Craig Morrison's visionary designs. He is working tirelessly alongside chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment, to collaborate with his daughters and make his best work.
